“What’s Jewish About Jewish Values” A Weekend Scholar-In-Residence Program

We are delighted to present The Bernie Linder Lecture Series Scholar-in-Residence Weekend July 10-12 at Agudas Israel Congregation. Our Scholar-in-Residence Rabbi Alan Freedman, Rabbi Emeritus of Temple Beth Shalom in Austin, Texas, will lead us in engaging discussions centered on how Jewish text and traditions have guided decision-making across generations and how Jewish ethics resonate today.

Friday, July 10, 5:30pm — Shabbat Service featuring a sermon by Rabbi Freedman, followed by Shabbat dinner.

Saturday, July 11, 10:30am — Shabbat morning Torah study examining ethical questions found in the weekly portion Mattot-Masei. Following Torah study, we will share lunch and discuss the moral implications of war through a Jewish lens.

Sunday, July 12, 2:00pm — Presentation and discussion on medical ethics, from genetics to the end of life.

Jewish Woven Spirits Basket Weaving

Join us for a hands-on , two-day basket weaving experience that blends creativity, community, and Jewish spirit.

Whether you’re a seasoned crafter or have never done this before, you’ll enjoy learning from a certified Master Basket Instructor in a welcoming setting. By the end of the workshop, you’ll have a beautiful basket to keep, display, or give as a special gift.

This is a two-day event open to all Agudas Israel members and nonmembers. Space is limited to 8 participants. The first session is Sunday, July 26. The last session is Sunday, August 2. Both sessions run from 10:00am to 2:00 pm.

Registration deadline is July 19.

All Agudas Israel Sisterhood members are invited to our fundraising "Chai" Tea Party featuring The Word Mavens-Joyce Eisenberg and Ellen Scolnic- who serve up stories of Jewish life with wit, warmth, and hilarity. Bring your friends for fun together as we sip tea, share laughs, and indulge on sweet delights. If you want, dress perky to celebrate the day in your springtime apparel-hats, dresses, gloves - whatever makes you feel special.

Join us as we celebrate Shavuot and commemorate the giving of the Torah on Mount Sinai and the grain harvest for the summer.

Thursday, May 21, 7:00pm — Evening Service followed by Cheesecake and Blintzes Bake-Off  & Tikkun Leil Shavuot Study Sessions.

Study sessions will be led by Cantor Labow and Rabbi Bentley.

Agudas Israel was featured in a Spectrum News 1 story about the Yarn Blooming initiative by STEAP (Storytelling, Education & Art Programs), aiming to bring the city’s diverse communities together through knitting.

In The News

Agudas Israel Sisterhood brought their knitting and crocheting talents to decorate "Communi-Trees" by the Depot on Maple Street in Hendersonville. Through projects like this, Agudas Israel continues to be an integral part of our community.
